NATIONAL hotel chain Travelodge is to resubmit plans to build a second hotel in the town, the Newquay Guardian can reveal.
Already close to completing work on its first hotel on Cliff Road, Travelodge will try again with plans for a second hotel in the Treloggan area, aimed at the business sector.
The company saw its initial plans for a stopover at Treloggan Industrial Estate halted earlier this year after complications arose over health and safety issues.
In danger
Council planners called in the Health and Safety Executive to rule on the application, which would have seen the hotel sited close to the Honeywell Group's industrial unit. The company feared guests at Travelodge could be put in danger in the event of an explosion or major incident, with its Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) tankers located 20 metres away from the building, at its nearest point.
But a spokesperson for the company said these issues had now been resolved.
"Travelodge is delighted to announce that it is in the process of resubmitting the planning application for a new hotel within the Treloggan area," she said.
"Previous health and safety objections raised by the council have now been addressed in our new plans."
The news comes as Travelodge gears up for the grand opening of its Cliff Road hotel, believed to be on November 18.
The hotel, located on the site of the former Beachcroft Hotel and now above an Aldi supermarket, will have 76 rooms.
With it will come the creation of 20 new jobs, which are now being advertised.
Hannah Dennis, Newquay Seafront Travelodge's hotel manager, said: "I am looking forward to bringing the best team together, to help make Newquay Seafront Travelodge a great success.
"At Travelodge, we believe in developing our people and offer an excellent training and career advancement programme.
Fulfilling
"The company's ethos is to ensure staff find their work enjoyable and fulfilling."
The company is looking to fill vacancies for receptionists, bar cafe assistants and guest room cleaners.
Anyone interested in the posts is asked to call in to Newquay Jobcentre to apply for any of the above vacancies. Alternatively, you can apply for these vacancies by e-mailing: recruitment@travelodge.co.uk
