Two men from Somerset will be travelling to Newquay in Cornwall this weekend to compete in the final round of the Zapcat Racing powerboat series.
While the majority of the global sporting audience at the end of this week will be focused on golf stars playing at the Ryder Cup in South Wales, Somerset-based Delta Jets, consisting of Ashley Chappell and Chris Rex, will be heading south to thrash it out in the huge surf which is expected at Fistral Beach this weekend.
The team, which has competed in other locations around the UK so far in the championship, including in Belfast, will be bidding to win the King of the Surf title, and there are quite a few other championship titles at stake. However, their outcome will remain undecided until the last race of the season around 4pm on Saturday.
There's fierce competition expected this weekend and for the first time it could be the youngsters dominating proceedings, with some sibling rivalry thrown into the mix.
Current champions Bluesheets I, piloted by Craig Davis and Rob Martin, will be battling it out for the King of the Surf title with the new Rookie champions SeaVacation II, piloted by Jack Weller and Nick Martin.
The Somerset team, Delta Jets, may also have something to say about that result too as well as the outcome of the team championship, which they are just leading with BladeRun piloted by Justin Whithorn and Chris Baldwin.
Big surf is a great leveller as even the most skilful pilots and co-pilots can come unstuck. It requires the utmost concentration, timing, nerve and a little bit of luck to avoid a stopper wave that can hand the advantage back to their opponents.
The Zapcat teams will certainly deliver excitement and thrills to rival the Ryder Cup with many tales to tell at the annual Zapcat awards night on Saturday evening.
The season kicked off in April at Newquay and the tour returns having visited Belfast, Edinburgh, Prestatyn, Barry Island and Aberdeen along the way.
Practice starts at 11am tomorrow and Saturday with racing from noon.
Twenty Zapcat teams will be up to the challenge and assisted by the Zapcat and RNLI safety and rescue teams.
The event is free to view and for Zapcat spotters out there look out for the new shape hull of the EVO model being tested for the first time in the surf at a UK championship venue.
Next year will see two Zapcat surf events in Newquay at both Watergate Bay and Fistral Beaches.
