Flybe Steps in to Help Passengers After Service Axed

FLYBE has stepped in to help passengers affected by a rival airline's decision to axe a route linking the Westcountry and London.
Air Southwest announced yesterday that it will cease flying from Newquay and Plymouth airports to London Gatwick from Tuesday, February 1. It follows the company's sale to Eastern Airways last year.
Passengers booked to fly from Newquay will be offered an alternative Flybe flight on the same route free of charge. Those due to travel from Plymouth will get a refund.
A spokesman for Exeter-based Flybe said: "Following its decision to cease operating the London Gatwick service from Newquay and Plymouth, Air Southwest approached Flybe to re-accommodate affected passengers and Flybe is pleased to confirm that it has been able to do so."
The spokesman added: "Flybe has the utmost respect for Air Southwest's new owners who have a long and successful history of providing quality air services, and will seek to assist Air Southwest in any way possible."
It is thought more than 4,000 passengers will switch to Flybe's Newquay to Gatwick service as a result of the move.
Responding to Air Southwest's announcement, Tim Jones, chairman of Devon and Cornwall Business Council, said: "This will be a body blow to the Plymouth economy. The symbolic and marketing opportunities that come out of having a link into Gatwick are incredibly important to Plymouth."
