Van Driver Arrested After Crash on A39 Leaves Two Seriously Injured

A VAN driver has been arrested following a crash on the A39 near Truro which left his passenger and a woman seriously injured.
His male passenger had to be cut from the vehicle by firefighters after becoming trapped when it collided with a black VW Golf.
The man, who was travelling in a white Ford Transit from Newquay, was taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital suffering head injuries.
His condition was understood to be serious.
A woman from Truro - believed to have been heading in the opposite direction - also suffered multiple injuries was taken to hospital, as was the van driver, who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving. He was said to have minor injuries.
The accident occurred at 1.38pm between Arch Hill roundabout and the Kea junction.
Police have blocked off the road in both directions between A390 Green Lane and Holywell Road. Severe traffic delays were expected to last several hours.
A police spokesman said: “At this time there is a significant build up of traffic and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible. Road closures with diversions are now in place.
“Those drivers caught up in the congestion are asked to be patient and observe police instructions while emergency services and highways clear up the scene before reopening the road.
