THE jobs of 32 staff at Plymouth's Boringdon Hall Hotel have been saved after the business was bought out of administration.
Ambitious Nettleton Holdings, which runs two leading hotels in Newquay, Cornwall, is the new owner of the Grade I-listed Elizabethan Manor House, in Plympton.
The building was put up for sale in September, but it is understood Nettleton Holdings paid less than the asking price of £2.25million to buy the hotel out of administration yesterday.
The new owner quickly told The Herald that the jobs of all 32 staff had been secured.
"All 32 staff contracts have been transferred," a Nettleton Holdings spokeswoman said. "They will be kept on."
The company also stressed that people who had booked functions, for instance weddings and receptions, would have their bookings honoured.
"If they want to give us a call they can verify that," the spokeswoman said.
She also stressed Nettleton Holdings would be "investing a great deal of money" into the 41-bedroom building.
It will unveil plans for refurbishment and expansion in the near future, the spokeswoman said, but insisted "the traditional spirit of the hotel will remain intact and the hotel will continue to operate".
Nettleton Holdings has interests around the South West including ownership of the four-star Bay Hotel and the three-star Esplanade Hotel, and Fistral Spa, all in Newquay.
A company spokeswoman said the firm had vastly improved the Bay Hotel since acquiring it.
James Nettleton, director of the new owner, was delighted his firm acquired Boringdon Hall, and said: "We are thrilled about the purchase of such a fantastic property.
"We are looking forward to the challenge ahead and welcome the opportunity to bring out the full potential of Boringdon Hall, for the enjoyment of our guests and the security of the employees.
"This is a great opportunity to invest in and reposition the hotel in the market place.
"We look forward to welcoming guests new and old and look forward to putting Boringdon Hall on the map as the place to stay in Devon."
When Boringdon Hall Hotel was put on sale last year, agents marketing the property said owner Paul Chapman was selling the business because he was retiring.
Former Plymouth Argyle footballer Mr Chapman bought the hotel in 2004 with then business partner Joseph Louei.
But the pair underwent an acrimonious "business divorce" in 2007 and last May Mr Chapman was ordered to pay more than £100,000 to his former business partner after Mr Louei sued him.
