Third Newquay School Could Become Academy

A school in Newquay is to become the third in the area to apply for academy status, according to the Cornish Guardian.
Tretherras School announced last week that it has taken the first steps in applying to the government to change its status.
The Cornish Guardian reports that if the school follows through with the process the plans could be approved as early as April.
Ofsted regulators rated the school as having outstanding performance in late 2010 meaning the school has acquired the grade required by the government to apply for academy ranking.
Deputy head teacher Steve Dunn told the Cornish Guardian: "We are in the process of consulting the relevant people about changing the school to an academy, which we have been doing since before Christmas."
A final decision by the school's governors will be taken on January 27th.
Although already a Foundation School, Tretherras' governors will meet to discuss whether the school will advance to academy status giving the school full responsibility of managing its funding and curriculum.
