Crantock is helping Scots celebrate Burns Night by serving up Cornish versions of the traditional "haggis, neeps and tatties" supper in the form of haggis pasties and haggis "sausage" rolls.
A Newquay bakery is helping Scots celebrate Burns Night by serving up a Cornish version of the traditional haggis, neeps and tatties supper.
Crantocks haggis pasties and haggis sausage rolls have been sent to hungry Scots all over the country, with some deliveries travelling almost 700 miles from Cornwall to bakeries in Inverness, Aberdeen and East Kilbride.
Crantocks send haggis pasties almost 700 miles from Cornwall to bakeries in Inverness, Aberdeen and East Kilbride.
The Newquay-based company use the traditional Burns Night supper ingredients of haggis, swede and potatoes as inspiration for their haggis pasty and haggis roll, which have proved so popular that they sell in Scotland all year round.
The Good Food Shop (TGFS) stock both products at their shops in East Kilbride, Aberdeen and Inverness alongside over a dozen other hand-finished Cornish pasties, hand-raised pies and sausage rolls from Crantocks.
Ron Russell owns TGFS with his wife Geraldine. He said: The haggis roll is very popular in the shops, and we sell a lot of haggis pasties at outdoor events such as the Highland Games circuit. For Burns Night well put a few tasters on the counter and usually get a few extra sales but the products are popular at all times of the year.
Ron also admits he enjoys the occasional haggis pasty: The mix on it is terrific; haggis mixed with neeps and tatties makes the complete package. There are lots of companies in Scotland that sell haggis pies but very few combine the three ingredients. Its the mix that makes it a superb product.
Scots have celebrated the life and work of Robert Burns at formal dinners held on the poets birthday since the late 18th century.
As well as the traditional Burns supper, the proceedings often include poetry, music and the occasional dram of whisky.
For Becky Hornabrook, Product Development Manager at Crantock Bakery, the appeal of Burns Night extends far beyond Scotland.
She said: Weve been making pasties and rolls with haggis for over six years now and its great to offer our customers something a little bit different but at the same time is very seasonal.
We spend a lot of time perfecting our recipes, from sourcing the best quality ingredients to testing and refining the blend of seasoning, so its really rewarding when you hear how much your products are enjoyed.
