Construction services firm ISG Pearce Ltd has completed the external shell of the state-of-the-art building on Crantock Street and is passing the site back to owners WTW Cinemas for work to begin on the interior.
Cheshire-based experts GF Holding has been contracted to deliver the internal fit-out over the next four months, ahead of opening to the public in the late spring. The company is one of the most experienced in Europe having completed the re-fit of the Odeon in Leicester Square and projects across the UK.
The new four-screen complex in Newquay, which will seat more than 650 people, is the first purpose-built all-digital projection cinema in the South West. The high-quality facilities will feature MasterImage 3D projection in two screens to cater for a number of 3D films planned for the 2011 summer season.
David Williams, Managing Director of WTW Cinemas said: “Today is quite a momentous occasion for us because it means that our teams can begin work on the inside of the building. It’s really starting to take shape now and we’re very excited to be getting closer to the cinema opening becoming a reality.”
He added: “The new cinema in Newquay is a facility built with families firmly in mind. There have been many changes in the town over the last sixteen years since the last cinema was open and we’re confident that this will help provide a real step-change in what Newquay is able to offer to people in the town and beyond.”
Simon Holding, Managing Director at GF Holding said: “We are delighted to be working with WTW Cinemas again after successfully undertaking the fit out of the White River Cinema in St Austell. Our experience of building cinemas exceeds forty years and with our commitment to exemplary customer service, WTW Cinemas can rest assured that the Newquay cinema fit out will be completed on time and to the very highest standards.”
Gary Cleary, Site Manager with ISG Pearce added: “It has been a privilege for our team to have managed the construction of Newquay’s impressive new cinema, a building which is set to bring huge enjoyment to the community. The project has been a pleasure to work on and it is with pride that we hand the keys over to WTW Cinemas following successful completion of the building work.”
Family-run business WTW Cinemas owns and operates cinemas The Plaza in Truro, White River Cinema in St Austell and The Regal in Wadebridge. The new cinema in Newquay is the second phase of the company’s development plan, which included the construction and opening of St Austell’s White River Cinema in December 2008. The third stage will be the refit of the existing Plaza cinema in Truro in 2012.
